11 May

Party Time Runners

Waterbeach Running Festival

We are midway through May and the race season is getting into its stride at a number of running festivals across the Midlands this weekend (12-13 May). No heatwave this time but there’s still plenty of fun to be had at these events.

It all starts on Saturday with what is billed as the biggest obstacle course event in the world. The Rat Race Dirty Weekend takes place at Burghley House in Lincolnshire. There are four races to choose from which are a dirty double, full mucker, half mucker and a young mucker for kids plus camping/glamping, huge event village and an afterparty headlined by Dave Pearce. Turn up, tune in and run!

Let’s keep moving and into Sunday for the Hereford Festival of Running on behalf of St Michael’s Hospice. The RUN Hereford event includes four distances - marathon, half marathon, 10K and a 5K and all are held on a scenic yet undulating route around the Herefordshire countryside. Food and drinks will be available at the Runner’s Village and Leisure Centre cafe with the latter acting as the start/finish. Every penny raised helps the hospice to continue its good work.

Our final stop is Cambridgeshire for the Waterbeach Running Festival. This event is held at the disused Waterbeach Barracks so expect a nice, flat, traffic-free course with high PB potential. There are four races, from a 100m toddle for the under 5s, a 2K fun run, 5K and a 10K open to 15 years upwards so something for every age and ability. There are medals for finishers in all races with all proceeds going to Waterbeach Toddler Playgroup.
