Tipton Harriers Richard Carpenter was on top of the world with a win at last Sunday’s (11 June) Decathlon Aldridge 10K. He was first across the line in 33:52.
Brian George Sims of Lichfield RC finished nearly two and half minutes behind Carpenter, coming second in 36:16. His teammate Richard O’Sullivan took third in 36:28.
Pippa Steele of Stone Master Marathoners was the fastest female in 42:54. Frances Vickers of Birchfield Harriers followed her in 44:32 with Cara Percival of Wolverhampton & Bilston AC coming third in 44:46. The last runner crossed the line in 1:37:06.
In addition to the 10K there was a 4.3K fun run and children’s races with a 400m for those aged seven and under, and a one-mile for older kids. The junior races were well attended with 46 runners in the 400m and 125 runners in the mile, which bodes well for the future of Walsall running.
The Aldridge 10K was the third race in a series for the Wolverhampton Bobsled Team who together with Jane Sutton is fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust and Stephen’s Story. They completed the hilly course in 1:17:22 and collected £112.97 in donations with the team raising a total of £1500 via their Virgin Money Giving page
. They are having a break from races until September when they will take part in the Wolverhampton 10K.
The organisers, Aldridge RC, thanked all who were involved, which included a record turnout of marshals, the sponsors and the Mayor of Walsall who was the official starter for the races and awarded the prizes.
