It’s the turn of the half marathon to be in the spotlight this weekend (7-8 October) with four top quality races scheduled.
The Tissington Trail Half Marathon in Derbyshire is the first of our races and a favourite with runners, cyclists and walkers due to the attractive, traffic-free route. It has grown in popularity to the extent there are two dates for this event this weekend. Both races follow the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
A stepchange takes us from the countryside to the city of Oxford with the Virgin Sport Half Marathon. There is a ‘street party’ theme to this race with live music and DJs along the route with the dreaming spires and ancient university buildings as a backdrop. There are seven water stations plus another three dispensing Lucozade Sport drinks during the race and sports massages afterwards at the race village.
Our next race is the Beacon Trail Half Marathon, one of three from Leicestershire-basde JackRabbit Events. Now in its fourth year, this two-lap race is held on trails within the scenic grounds of Beacon Hill Country Park with woods, hills and fast descents to look forward to.
The fourth and final race is in Peterborough. The Perkins Great Eastern Half Marathon along with a wheelchair race and Anna’s Hope Fun Run are taking place on a flat, PB-potential course in the historic city centre. This BARR Gold Graded Event is acquiring a reputation as a ‘must do’ half marathon.
