On Saturday 21 October, an eight-strong team of Birmingham elite athletes will pay tribute to legendary coach and mentor Bud Baldaro. They will be part of Bud’s Run, a 5K event to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK.
Birmingham Elite Athletes Join Bud’s Run
Now in its fourth year, the popular 5k fun run takes place on closed roads around the University of Birmingham campus to fundraise for a charity close to the race founder’s heart. Former UK Athletics marathon coach Bud Baldaro set up the event after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 and used his passion for running to raise awareness and monies for Parkinson’s UK.
Bud Baldaro has been at the university for over 10 years and has coached middle and long distance runners to national and international success. This well-liked and respected figure turns 70 this year, making it an extra cause for celebration along with another ‘7’, that of raising £70,000 for his chosen charity.
He coaches the Birmingham Run-Fast squad, who benefit from his extensive knowledge and experience and in a professional training environment with access to top-flight facilities. The squad are represented by the Run-Fast Sports Management Agency with director Peter McHugh De Clare grateful for Bud's influence, saying: “Our partnership with the University of Birmingham simply would not have come into being without Bud’s vision, enthusiasm and passion for running. With that in mind, it is only fair that we give this year’s Bud’s Run our full support.”
Entries are now open for the 2017 Bud’s Run, which includes a 2k dash for U11s, Corporate Team Challenge, bacon baps, coffee, cake and, new for this year, interactive team games with Rabble.
