The UK running scene received a dramatic boost with news of a major new 'city to city' marathon. The headline grabbing format of a race from vibrant Bristol to historic Bath over the classic 26.2 mile distance will whet the appetites of runner not only in the South West but across the country.

The closed road traffic-free Bristol + Bath Marathon will see participants take in the sights of the metropolitan Bristol, including the SS Great Britain and Queens’ Square, before making their way through the beautiful rolling countryside of South Gloucestershire on the journey to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath.

Jamie Warren at innovative race organisers GO2 is confident the new marathon will become a key event in the running calendar.  He said: “There are only a handful of closed road marathons in the UK and we are incredibly excited to be bringing something new to the rich local running scene in the South West of England. This ‘City to City’ event promises to be really unique and we are looking forward to the Bristol + Bath Marathon becoming a firm favourite locally and nationally."

Organisers expect that South West runners targeting the September Bristol Half Marathon will take the opportunity to graduate to marathon distance six weeks later at the Bristol + Bath Marathon. While participants at races like the Great North Run and Windsor Half Marathon will consider a great autumn double that completes with Bristol + Bath Marathon.

Further details of the Bristol + Bath Marathon will be announced in January, including full route details. Visit the event website for more information and to pre-register interest and hear when entries open and about ‘early bird’ discounts.
