Recent arrival Warwick Racecourse parkrun are holding a special event tomorrow (Saturday 23 November) and everyone is invited to gallop over and join in the celebrations at 9am. David Moorcroft OBE who is a UK Ambassador for parkrun will be there...
There was a quiet launch at their inaugural event (28 September) when 104 people were under starter’s orders at the racecourse. Numbers have grown since then and a community is building as people are keen to try the fast, flat and friendly out and back course on mainly gravel paths (apart from a small section of trail). Having a cafe close to the start/finish line is another good reason to attend and the course is suitable for dogs and buggies.
The organisers are keen to attract walkers as well as runners and offered a warm welcome to Chase Meadows Walking Group who undertook their first parkrun on 26 October.
This Saturday will be Warwick Racecourse's 7th parkrun and an opportunity to express their gratitude to all those who made it a reality. Event director Martin Cable was looking to set up a parkrun in Warwick a few years ago and the idea was given a further boost when event director, Kevin Baskerville at Leamington parkrun asked them to form a core team. They secured funding from the town council and district council, Volvo, Apteco and the King Henry VIII Fund. Keen parkrunner Abi Morton got involved and is now a Co-Event Director along with Martin Cable.
A 'thank you' to sponsors, staff from Priory Medical Centre who signed up to the parkrun practices initiative, staff from Warwick Racecourse and Chair of Warwickshire County Council, Nicola Davies.
