A team of bank workers is set to pound the streets of Chesterfield after signing up for the town’s half marathon on 14 September. Barry Dillon, Donna Butler and Jane Illingworth, who work for Santander Corporate & Commercial, will run the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon in aid of Kids ‘n’ Cancer, which specialises in securing Proton Therapy treatment for young people with cancer.
They will take part in the half marathon as part of a day of events which includes a full marathon, half marathon, fun run and relay race.
Barry (35), who has never run a half marathon before, said: “The challenge aspect of taking part in an event like this appeals a lot as well. It’s great to have a reason and a focus for getting fit. I hope to run a full marathon in the future, but I’ll wait to see if I get round this in one piece first!”
The team is now busy collecting donations for Kids ‘n’ Cancer and the Santander Foundation has also pledged to match fund any money the trio raise for the charity.
More than 1,500 runners have already signed-up to take part in the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon, which starts and finishes at Queen’s Park in the town centre.
Entry for the main race is now closed but runners can still take part in the family fun run.
