Dashing Victory By Myatt

Simon Myatt Of Trentham RC On His Way To Victory At The Dales Dash

Nearly 300 runners turned out in winter sunshine for the 13th Newcastle Dales Dash (Sunday 4 Dec) and Simon Myatt of Trentham RC had a good reason to like the number 13. The 36-year old won the Newcastle Dales Dash in 35:41, an impressive time for this undulating course.

Simon was followed home by Matt Hall of Shrewsbury AC in 37:10 with Julian Goodwin of Boalloy RC coming third in 37:43.
Catherine Howard of Knowsley Harriers AC won the women’s race in 42:58. Deborah Thomas of Trentham RC was second in 44:12 with Joanne Donnelly of Newcastle (Staffs) Tri Club taking third place in 44:35. No double victories for Trentham RC although a first in the men’s race and second place in the women’s race were a cause to celebrate
The race was hosted by Newcastle (Staffs) AC; however, it was first organised by the late Margaret Barker who was a member of the club and part of the Apedale Countryside Project. Sadly, she passed away in 2008 and since then the club has presented four trophies in her memory: one for the winning lady, one for the first Newcastle (Staffs) AC lady to finish and those for the first U16 male and female.
These were in addition to prizes for the usual categories.
Runners followed a multi-terrain course in the attractive surroundings of Apedale Community Park, west of Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire. They tackled several hills, passed through woodlands and meadows and ran along a wooden boardwalk before hitting the tarmac for a sprint finish.
All finishers received a beautiful Aynsley china mug for their efforts.
