It is the start of July and while the weather has been in the doldrums, there is a stellar line-up of races to lighten the mood. Derbyshire is the place to be this weekend with two 5ks, a 10-miler, a half marathon and a fell race.
We start on Saturday with No Walk in the Park 5K, a time trial series organised by North Derbyshire Running Club and held on the first Saturday of each month. Runners complete multiple laps in Queen’s Park in Chesterfield followed by a 1500m fun run for children.
North Derbyshire Running Club also organise the Brampton Brewery Chesterfield Spire 10, a 10-mile race with hill climbs and a fast downhill section. It takes place on Sunday at 10.30am from Holmebrook Valley Park in Newbold, Chesterfield with a bottle of locally brewed Spire beer for all finishers.
Also on Sunday, the Derbyshire Dales plays host to Ashbourne Half Marathon and 5K Run in the Park. Both events are organised by Nice Work on behalf of Ashbourne Running Club with a 10.30am start time for the half marathon followed by the 5K fun run shortly afterwards. The half marathon takes place on a challenging route that passes through the Peak District and Dovedale with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The fun run is held at Ashbourne Recreation Ground.
We complete our stay in Derbyshire with the Great Hucklow Fell Race in Buxton. The race is part of the Gritstone Series organised by Accelerate in partnership with Inov-8 and is 9.8k (6.1 miles) in distance with 1115ft of climbing.
