When April Hamlin let her dog Ludivine out to pee, little did she know her pooch would go on to come seventh in a half marathon. Ludivine managed to sneak out of the back garden and towards the starting line of the inaugural Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon in Elkmont Alabama on Sunday 17 January.
She then ran the race course in its entirety, finishing seventh with an impressive time of 1:32:56. The race organisers texted April pictures of her dog wearing a race medal.
April said of her pup’s achievement: “All I did was open the door, and she ran the race on her own accord. My first reaction was that I was embarrassed and worried that she had possibly gotten in the way of other runners.”
Fellow race participant, Jim Clemens described Ludivine’s performance: “She would run off to romp through streams and into yards to sniff around for a while. Every time I thought she had dropped off to go back home, I would hear her coming back up to me, and she would race past me up to the two leaders.”
April admits she’s still shocked by Ludivine’s performance: “I can’t believe she ran the whole half marathon because she’s actually really lazy!”
