The windy conditions did not prevent Kristina Dulson from storming to victory at the Potters ‘Arf Marathon (Sunday 11 June). The rising Trentham RC star won in 1:27:19.
Dynamic Dulson Wins At Potters ‘Arf
Dulson added the Hanley Economic Building Society (HEBS) Potters ‘Arf Marathon title to her growing list of achievements including the Westbridge 5, Clayton 10K, Rugeley 10 and Uttoxeter Half Marathon. She finished ahead of teammate Debbie Thomas who took second in 1:29:10, continuing her run of good form this season. Wendy Mullineux of Heanor RC came third in 1:30:49.
Ben Gamble won in 1:10:53 with the Tipton Harriers runner posting his third consecutive victory at this race. Gamble was 20 seconds slower than last year due to the blustery weather but ran strongly despite this and was in control throughout.
Boalloy RC’s Carl Moulton had to settle for second place in 1:12:48 following his win at the Westbridge 5 a week ago. Simon Myatt of Trentham RC was third in 1:15:43. The last runner finished in 3:28:35.
Enthusiastic crowds of supporters lined the streets to cheer the runners on around a tough course which includes the infamous ‘Heartbreak Hill’ at 12 miles. The brutal climb up Milton Road was a true test of grit before the field turned and headed towards the finish in Hanley.
For most runners, 13.1 miles would be enough but not for Andrew Vickerman of Gold Events. He ran four laps equalling 52 miles in total to fundraise for Potteries Active Kids and as preparation for his 268-mile Pennine Way Charity Challenge in September with Stoke FIT’s Frank Murphy.
