It’s time for something completely different running-wise this weekend (27-28 January). We have a mixed bag of events that include a headtorch run, an ultra, a forest half marathon and a multiple lap race which cheekily refers to very cold weather!
We open our assorted collection on Saturday with two races. The first of these is the National Trust Night Run Series at Clumber Park. There is a choice of the 3K (approx) Explorer or the 7K (approx) Adventurer route and is suitable for walkers, runners and families.
Our second race is an ideal first ultra for anyone looking to step up from marathons. The Waterway 30 is organised by HOBO Pace whose owner Ronnie Staton has many years experience in ultras and understands the specific requirements of the sport. This is a one-lap, signed route in scenic Nottinghamshire countryside via two waterway towpaths and easy to navigate.
The intrigue continues on Sunday and the Brass Monkey Run 10K and Fun Run although ironically, the weather forecast looks to be mild and breezy this weekend. It is organised by Lakeland Hospice, Corby and involves the completion of 1.5-mile laps around Rockingham Speedway Circuit with a medal and goody bag for every finisher.
The beautiful Wyre Forest is the location for a trail half marathon from Pulse Pursuits. The DirtRun Wyre Wizard Trail Half Marathon starts at 9.30am with runners treated to a challenging course through this ancient setting. Follow this with hot drinks and mouth-watering cakes in the Wyre Forest cafe.
