Water is the common denominator at this weekend’s (24-25 February) races but no rain or wintry showers thankfully, although that is forecast for next week. These events are held near reservoirs and lakes so don’t fall in...
Why not dip your toe into the racing water at the 10K and Half Marathon weekend double at Ashbourne in Derbyshire. One of several events from Nice Work, the multi-terrain races follow undulating paths and trails around Carsington Water Reservoir with stunning views of the Peak District. Runners complete half a loop for the 10K or or 1.5 loops for the half marathon and the course is signed and marshalled throughout. Buses will transport runners from the Race HQ (Visitor Centre) to the start line.
The aquatic theme continues at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham and the East Midlands 10K. This is the second outing for this event from Ultimate Fitness Experience on a flat course with a few twists and turns plus a couple of fast straights to sprint along. It’s similar to Carsington in that runners complete loops or in this case, two, 5K laps around the regatta lake and alongside areas used by GB Olympic athletes.
Finally, take the plunge at the Knype Pool 5 mile race and 1 mile Fun Run in Biddulph, Staffordshire. Held at Greenway Bank Country Park on an off road route around Knypersley Reservoir with a commemorative memento, free hot soup and a bread roll for every finisher. Bring warm clothing to change into and money to buy homemade cakes from the charity stall.
