GB international Gemma Steel was in a winning mood at the first Run Your Heart Out Valentine’s 10K on Sunday (10 February) where she felt the love for the fast course and big-hearted medal.
Over 1,500 runners including Charnwood AC’s Gemma Steel were at Quibell Park, Scunthorpe waiting for the clock to tick down to 11am and the start of the Run Your Heart Out Valentines 10K. A new race from Tape2Tape Events, it was held on closed roads around the town and there was a big stadium finish to end the day on a high.
A fast, flat course meant a PB was a strong possibility and this was the case for many runners who hit their targets. Gemma ran strongly from the outset and sprinted across the line in the Athletic Stadium to become the fastest female in 34:31. Sarah Lowery of Rotherham Harriers & AC was second in 35:45 with Rachel Friend of Leeds City AC third in 36:03.
Shaun Robinson appeared to have wings on his heels as he sped across the finish line to win this inaugural Valentine’s 10K in 30:53. William Strangeway of Lincoln Wellington AC came second in 32:13, nine seconds ahead of teammate Ryan Page who was third in 32:22.
Whilst there might not have been any red roses or chocolates at the end; the organisers presented everyone with a themed medal that was their largest bling ever. In addition to this was a special Valentine’s Day cupcake.
Tape2Tape Events would like to thank the race sponsors for their support, the volunteers for their help and Winterton Beavers for their sterling efforts at the water station.
