There are only four days to go to the JCP Swansea Half Marathon on Sunday 25 June with 8,000 runners expected in the city for the event. The race, now in its fourth year, has received its largest number of entrants to date.
Getting Set For The Swansea Half
The event was voted the UK’s Best Half Marathon at the 2017 Running Awards and this accolade has attracted runners from the UK and overseas including Brazil and Argentina. As the second largest distance race in Wales it will feature homegrown talent such as Josh Griffiths, the fastest British placed finisher at the London Marathon and GB elite athlete Rachel Felton. The organisers hope last year’s winners, Dewi Griffiths and Hannah Walker, will return to defend their titles.
Various celebrities have taken part over the years and the organisers expect a few famous faces to be part of the line-up this Sunday. Torchwood and Broadchurch actress Eve Myles will be there along with former Eggheads star CJ de Mooi. Joining them is ultra marathon runner Lowri Morgan plus David Wyeth (Chorlton Runners) and Matt Rees (Swansea Harriers) with the latter famous for his display of sportsmanship at the London Marathon in which he helped a struggling David Wyeth over the finish line.
The fast, flat scenic course will appeal to club runners and those fundraising for charity with one group aiming to set a new world record for the biggest number of Type 1 diabetics to complete a half marathon.
Entries have now closed, however, anyone wishing to run can do so for headline charities Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.
