Golden Debut For Kidsgrove 10K

the start of the inaugural Kidsgrove 10K

326 runners braved the cold and turned out to support the inaugural Kidsgrove 10K yesterday (Sunday 22 January) and a light covering of snow at the start of the race failed to dampen the enthusiasm of runners, marshals and spectators at this new event in Staffordshire.

Mark Powell of Leicester Coritanians won this latest addition to the Gold-Events series of races, coming home in 33:19. NSRRA Champion Carl Moulton of Boalloy was second in 33:55 with Jamie Arnold of City of Stoke AC coming third in 36:43.
Heather Carter of Sandbach Striders won the women’s race in 41:02. Only four seconds separated second and third with Jo Moss of Congleton Harriers claiming the runner-up spot in 42:11. Vic Walls of Spectrum Striders came third in 42:15.
Liam Murphy was the midpoint runner, crossing the line in 55:29.

In the 1.5-mile fun run for juniors the emphasis was on the word ‘fun’ as the youngsters ran through a playground and went down a slide! With prizes for the winning boy and girl as well as the best fancy dress.

There was a good camaraderie between the runners who cheered each other along the course in Clough Hall park. Added to this was plenty of encouragement from marshals and spectators that kept everyone’s spirits up in spite of the weather.

However, there was a chance to thaw out and re-fuel courtesy of The Filling Station catering van at the King’s School HQ in Kidsgrove.

All finishers received a bespoke medal, memento and a Buff-style hat.
