Blue skies and a scenic multi-terrain course were a winning combination at the first Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun on Saturday 3 November. People walked, jogged or galloped their way around this premier track in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
A keen field of 170 runners christened the inaugural event at Market Rasen Racecourse. They gathered in front of the main grandstand, enjoying the late autumn sunshine while listening to the run director’s briefing.
At 9am they set off along a multi-terrain course within parkland that is contained within the racecourse. Proceeding in a clockwise direction for three laps – the first was 1k followed by two 2k laps on a mildly undulating gravel track. Runners kept to the inside rail, then crossed the grass infield area before following the inside rail again and back onto the gravel track before racing through the funnel to finish on the grass.
Gregan Clarkson (VM35-39) of Kingston upon Hull AC was first past the post in 16:52. Sophie Darling (SW25-29) of Lincoln Wellington AC was the fastest female in 20:11.
Benjamin France (JM10) was the youngest male in 33:36: Isabelle France (JW10) was the youngest female in 33:42. At the other end of the spectrum were John Munro (VM70-74) in 33:24 and Pauline Uprichard (VW70-74) in 42:29.
23 supportive volunteers clapped and cheered them every step of the way and this encouragement was greatly appreciated along with the trademark relaxed, friendly parkrun atmosphere.
The next Market Rasen Racecourse parkrun is on Saturday 10 November at 9am.
