Wednesday’s (27 December) Tempo Winter Series Race 3 was a gruelling post-Christmas workout for a field of 200 plus who heard the starter hooter before heading off around an attractive rural route through the villages of Alderminster, Wimpstone and Ilmington. There were prizes for the first, second and third male and female finishers with cash prizes for age category winners.
Richard Shephard of Stratford AC was first across the line in 35:27. Richard Simpkiss of the McCarkiss Endurance Project followed him in 37:27. Ian Mansell of Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers came third in 37:38. Charlotte Everard of Spa Striders won the women’s race in 43:33 with Hannah Rogan taking second place in 44:44. Emma Bexson of Stratford AC was third in 45:03. The last runner finished in 1:25:23.
This is one of a series of five 10K road races organised by Tempo Events. These take place in Shipston on Stour with the start and finish from Ilmington Sports and Social Club. The course is the same each time; however, one race proceeds in a clockwise direction then anti-clockwise at the next race and so on throughout the series.
Runners who complete all five races receive a Tempo Events Winter Series hoody.
The organisers capped the number of entries at 250 following an agreement with the local parish council. As a result, the organisers advised runners to enter in advance and particularly for all five races in the series if they were competing to be the overall winner. This also applied to runners wanting a prized hoody!
Race 4 in the series is on 22 January 2017. Visit the Tempo Events website for more details.
