Were you inspired watching the recent Great North Run on tv? Did you complete May's Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K and feel ready to step up (and take advantage of a £10 discount)? Maybe England's success at the Cricket World Cup has galvanised you. Well, there is still time but you will have to be quick if you want to be on the start line on Sunday 13 October for Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run.
The second largest half marathon in the UK, Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run is the event that sees thousands of supporters and hundreds of volunteers cheer a huge field of club, charity and fun runners around a course which features many of the city's famous landmarks.
One half marathon first-timer Steve Evans is in good heart: "Can't wait. Will be my first half and managed 10 miles in training. Hope the adrenaline gets me to the finish as well as the crowds. Gonna be brill."
Motivational music on the course, including dhol drummers, jazz and modern pop, will help Steve and thousands of others as they progress along the 13.1 mile test. And they will get an extra lift at the Brummy Army Cricket zone near the 10 mile mark where runners will relive England’s World Cup success.
Expect to feel a tingle of pride as you pass Edgbaston, where runners can expect roaring cricket supporters in full kit plus famous cricket tunes and soundbites blasting out on speakers. If that and the sight of the cutout of Ben Stokes doesn't get you to the finish, nothing will!
Post-race finishers will head to the event village at Aston University campus where they can meet up with family and friends, grab partner giveaways, visit the Simplyhealth stretch and massage zones and find out more about the event's charity partners.
Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run is the action-packed event which in addition to the Half Marathon includes Mini and Junior Runs. The Mini (ages 3-8) and Junior (ages 9-16) Runs gives kids the chance to experience their own finish line moment and wear their medals with pride just like the adults.
Don't miss out on the Midlands' biggest running day of the year – sign up today and be part of the fun and excitement on Sunday 13 October.
