Hat-trick For Dewi At Swansea Half
His latest victory is testament to the athlete’s good form this season with impressive performances at the British Athletics Cross Challenge, Reading Half Marathon and Cardiff 10K. Michael Clohisey was second in 1:05:33, less than a minute behind Griffiths with Sean Hehir taking third place in 1:06:36.
There was an equally strong display of running from Claire Gibbons-McCarthy to win the women’s race in 1:14:34. Rachel Felton of Run-Fast was second in 1:16:35 with Caryl Jones of Swansea Harriers completing the podium in 1:17:52.
In the wheelchair race, Eddie Clampin was first home in 2:18:59 followed by Stephanie Benac in 2:23:58. Richard Batchelor was third in 2:47:08. Headline sponsor JCP Solicitors won the Corporate Challenge with the five fastest times from 1:22:21 to 1:40:26.
The runners turned the city into a sea of pink with their brightly coloured race T-shirts, which were a fitting reward for their efforts on a fast, flat course in near perfect conditions. Xempo Race Pacing helped many participants to a PB along with enthusiastic support from the crowds, charity fundraisers and the Volunteer Race Makers.
This was a friendly, well-organised race by Front Runner Events Ltd with nearly 5,000 entrants, from newcomers to elites and an appearance by Shaun the Sheep. Many were running for worthy causes with this year’s total amount raised expected to be the biggest in the race’s history.
Entries have already opened for the 2018 JCP Swansea Half Marathon. Visit the event website for details.
