The Hanbury Hall Summer Sizzler lived up to its name with young and old DirtRunners racing in sweltering conditions on Friday night (22 July). The event was back at Hanbury Hall in Worcestershire for the second time, with a 4.8-mile race around the grounds, tracks, gardens and fields of this impressive National Trust property. Nearly 180 runners turned out on Friday 22 July at 7pm for this trail treat on a warm summer evening. Enjoying the surroundings followed by post-race refreshments.
The Summer Sizzler is part of the DirtRun series of events organised by Pulse Pursuits. They work closely with The National Trust, The Forestry Commission and Heart of England Forest, arranging trail runs from 5k upwards in attractive locations. They also organise cycling, paddle sprint and bespoke corporate events.
New for this year was the inclusion of a junior race over 2.6km (1.61 miles) that followed the adult route for the first mile before heading back through the gardens.
There were prizes for all age categories with medals and goodies for all finishers including a bottle of real ale courtesy of sponsor Teme Valley Brewery. This race raises funds for St Richard’s Hospice with £1 from every entry fee going to the charity.
In the senior race, Rob Bowery of Tewkesbury AC was first across the line in 30:58 followed by Michael Tomkins of Vegan Runners UK in 31:20. Jamie Hodgkinson took third place in 32:25.
Zoe Ryan won the women’s race in a time of 39:27 followed by Annie Bird in 39:50. Helen Close of Kings Heath RC – The Lions came third in a time of 39:59.
