In The Heat of the Run

The Longhorn

Virgin Money London Marathon takes place on Sunday and looks set to be the warmest in its 36 year history. But for anyone not running in the capital we have a sizzling selection of races to tempt you this weekend (21-22 April). Don’t forget your sun cream...

A ‘never say die’ attitude is needed at the Forest Ninja and Forest Warrior Classic on Saturday and Sunday respectively. This is an Obstacle Course race (OCR) in the very best tradition with cargo nets, tunnels, walls, swings as well as hills, ditches and swamps. Both events are held at Speech House near Coleford in the Forest of Dean with plenty of natural obstacles to tackle as well as the man-made ones. Note: the Forest Warrior event has sold out.

Staying with the forest theme we have The Longhorn in Nottinghamshire. This event is hosted by SBR Events and there are five distances on offer, from 5K to a 60K Ultra. All races are open to canicross entrants and there is a Nordic Walking option at 5K, 10K and half marathon distance. The course goes through the stunning grounds of Thoresby Hall and includes Sherwood Forest and there are plenty of water stations along the way.

Another superb location is Hagley Hall, Stourbridge for the Resolution Run on behalf of the Stroke Association. Choose from 5K, 10K or 15K and enjoy a warm up 15 minutes prior to the start time of 11am. Runners will set off in waves according to distance and follow a multi-terrain course through a wildlife park complete with deer. Enjoy a run in the sun while fundraising for a worthy cause.
