In The Pink At Rugby Half

Pink Flamingo Runner At The Rugby Half Marathon
Over 400 runners celebrated the end of the half term week at the Rugby Half Marathon (29 October).  There was even a pink flamingo amongst their number...

Chris Pollitt wore this eye-catching costume as part of his fundraising efforts for Cancer Research UK. Prior to this, he had completed the Rugby 10 mile race and the Birmingham Half Marathon and together, this trio of events has raised £360 for charity. His next event is the Winter Wolf Run in Leicestershire where he will appear in another outfit.
The race was held on closed roads around Rugby with a 1k Fun Run at 9.45am followed by the half marathon at 10am. The route was a mixture of roads and country lanes including a disused railway line that had been transformed into a nature reserve. The runners headed back along this to the finish at Hart Field.
Andrew Siggers of Kenilworth Runners won the Rugby Half Marathon in 1:13:46. Karl Welborn of Tipton Harriers/Team Marathon Road was second in 1:14:23 with Stephen Marks of Rugby & Northampton AC coming third in 1:15:44.
Tori Green of Rugby & Northampton AC was the first lady in 1:25:58 followed by Donna Allen of Hook Norton Harriers in 1:29:51. Becky Beasley of Kenilworth Runners took third in 1:33:18.
Chris Pollitt (pink flamingo) finished in 1:45:40. The last runner crossed the line in 2:46:00.
This event is the latest addition to the series from The Race Organiser who hosts races from 5K to Half Marathon and the London Aquathlon. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 10K Series is next on the agenda.
