The summer of sport is hotting up with Wimbledon, the Tour de France and the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. It is the same in the Midlands running scene with a quality line-up of events this weekend (8-9 July).
In With A Sporting Chance
Relay races are always popular and there are two taking place in Shropshire on Saturday. The first is the Wrekin Relay Challenge which sees teams of three people run 3.8-mile laps around an undulating course around the Wrekin. The second is the Shropshire Eastridge Trail Half Marathon and Relay Challenge on trails and tracks along the Stiperstones ridge, with over 2,000 ft of climbing.
We move onto the road on Sunday with the Gloucester 10K and the likelihood of a PB. The traffic-free course is mainly flat with the occasional twist and turn and takes in the sights and sounds of the cathedral city. It starts at 9am from Gloucester Park.
Finally, there is the Wyre Forest Trail Half Marathon, organised by Amazing Feet Running Club in Kidderminster. Entrants can look forward to a hilly route through glorious woodlands and a distinctive medal as a reward for their hard work.
