Christmas came early for Jimmy Kershaw and Alice Daniel at the Keyworth Turkey Trot Half Marathon. They took the top spots at this festive fundraiser.
It was the 36th outing for the Keyworth Turkey Trot Half Marathon that attracted over 900 runners, keen to give their legs a spin before Christmas. This popular annual event fundraises for the 1st Keyworth Scout Group whose members manned the water stations and baggage drops. It also raises funds for the charity Rainbows.
There was sunshine at the start as runners set off at 10.30am from South Wolds School. They tackled a rural hilly course that included a particularly challenging section before the village of Wysall, around the villages of the South Nottinghamshire Wolds. A large contingent of marshals provided support and encouragement and several members of Keyworth Camera Club captured the event.
Jimmy Kershaw of Absolute Tri was the winner in 1:12:32 followed by Chris Kilburn in 1:14:37. Bruce Raeside took third place in 1:14:57.
Alice Daniel was the fastest female in 1:25:14. Katie Lomas of Charnwood AC was second in 1:26:39 followed by her teammate Alice Thackray who was third in 1:26:58.
Turkeys were presented to the male and female winner in all categories and there was a small memento for every finisher. This gift differs each year and for the 2018 race, everyone received a set of Turkey Trot race clips.
The organisers would like to thank local businesses for their support, the Co-op for the turkeys, the volunteers and marshals and last but not least the runners, many who travelled a long distance to take part.
