There was an early Christmas present for Darren King of Clowne Road Runners who won yesterday's (Sunday, 4 December) Edwinstowe 10K Trail Race in 34:56. The MV40 runner showed that he is more than capable of speed, averaging 5.37 minute/miling for the race. His teammate Jordan Street turned in an equally impressive performance, coming second in 35:24 to make it a Clowne Road Runners one and two.
Rebecca Winter of Ackworth Road Runners produced a spirited display to win the women’s race in 38:34. Rebecca Gallop of Newark AC took second place in 40:38 with Sally Hughes of Sutton in Ashfield Harriers third in 42:24.
Fiona Johnson was the midpoint runner in 55:48.
A field of nearly 600 runners turned out on a cold, bright morning for the ninth year of this trail race, organised by Run2U Events. They followed an undulating route in the historic Sherwood Forest Country Park, which also acted as the start and finish for the race. The organisers had to divert runners in the middle of the course due to harvesting operations within the forest: they then proceeded on their way before completing a loop around the cricket pitch and then on towards the finish.
There were prizes for the first, second and third men and women along with age category awards and trophies for the first three male, female and overall club teams. A number of spot prizes were handed out and all finishers received a special commemorative T-shirt.
The organisers would like to thank retail sponsor ‘The Lincolnshire Runner’, race partners, volunteers and everyone who helped or supported the event.
