Up to 3,000 runners are expected to compete in this Sunday’s (25 October) Leicester Marathon and Half Marathon. Those considering last minute entry to the event are being alerted to the fact registration closes today at 23.59 (20 October), while organisers have also sounded a rallying call for volunteers to assist on race day.
The race starts at Victoria Park and sees runners travel out of the city and up the Melton Road. The half marathon runners will then turn left on to Wanlip Road, run through Watermead Park, then Birstall, and along the River Soar before running back to the city to finish at Victoria Park.
Meanwhile, the full marathon turns right on Wanlip Road, through East Goscote, then to Thrussington before heading back towards Leicester through Rearsby, East Goscote, Queniborough, and Barkby and then finishing with the same route the half marathon runners took back to Victoria Park.
Last year’s race saw Hermitage Harriers’ Matt Adcock take first place in a time of 2:35:15, followed by Robert Affleck (2:36:58) and Adam Holland (2:40:23). In the women’s competition, Kate Wright secured a convincing win in 3:07:42, more than seven minutes ahead of Sarah Fraser (3:14:52).
