Lucian Allison was in a hurry at the Cleethorpes AC New Year’s Day 10K onWednesday (1 January). He posted the quickest time in 26 years at this long established road race in North East Lincolnshire.
The flat and fast course around Cleethorpes and Humberston suited the Lincoln Wellington AC man and many others, hoping to start the year with a PB. The Lincoln Wellington AC man raced away from the outset and looked in winning form throughout as he crossed the line in a speedy 29:39.
Finley Thompson of Grimsby Tri followed in 32:51 with Caleb Stephenson of Cleethorpes & District AC third in 34:10.
Georgina Weston of Rotherham Harriers & AC started her New Year off by winning the women’s race in 36:41. Beth Taylor was second in 38:39 and Carolyn Hay of Redhill Road Runners third in 38:54.
Organised by Cleethorpes AC, sponsored by Brianplant and with an 80 minute time limit, around 500 runners gathered on King’s Road waiting to start at 10.30am. The clock ticked down and then away they went, completing two small loops and one large loop that comprised this PB-perfect route and were cheered by spectators.
The image on the front of the long-sleeved T-shirt presented to every finisher captured the post-Christmas slump. That feeling of exhaustion after running off the turkey, mince pies and other delights consumed during the festive period. This was accompanied by an equally distinctive medal.
Coming up fast is the third Winter Series Cleethorpes 5K Time Trial on Tuesday 7 January. Visit the Cleethorpes AC
