Last New Year, some 2.6 million people in the UK decided to change their diet and exercise habits in a bid to shape up. However, within two weeks, 92% had already ditched their resolution in favour of returning to their old ways.
If you are serious about improving your fitness in 2016 and don’t want to become 'just another statistic', then set yourself the goal of completing Decathlon Coventry’s Half Marathon. Once you have the date cemented in your diary, having something to work towards will keep the motivation going!
Decathlon Coventry’s Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 28 February, and is open to runners of all abilities; those hungry for a PB, to raise money for charity, and those who just want to complete that New Year challenge and cross the finish line.
Whatever your reason for taking part, you can rest assured that this is one challenge you won’t be doing alone! As one of almost 3,500 runners so far, the organisers ensure that each and every participant has access to dedicated half marathon training plans, as well as all the information you could need to prepare you for race day, making it all the more enjoyable.
Jamie Warren, from organisers, GO2, said: “Completing a half marathon is on many people's lists of things they want to achieve, and the New Year provides the perfect opportunity to make these goals a reality.
“Whether you run fast or slow, crossing the finish line with the support of your city and thousands of other participants will give you a sense of achievement like no other. Who knows, 2016 might be the year you catch the running bug!”
Councillor Abdul Khan, deputy leader and cabinet member responsible for events added: “We want this year’s event to be the biggest event so far and it’s great to see so many people already signed up for February. However, I’m sure there’s more people out there who are looking for that special challenge, so why not make this event one of your first challenges for this year.”
The route takes in Coventry city centre, the beautiful surrounding countryside, and a great downhill stretch for the final stages of the run. The race will start and finish in the city centre once again and provides the perfect course profile for runners to find a good rhythm and really get into their stride, the route also encourages lots of support as spectators line the streets to cheer on friends and family.
