Felix McGrath added the Staffs Knot 5 to his growing tally of wins last night ((Wednesday 25 July) after a battle with the sultry weather and Carl Moulton at this scenic midweek race.
The Staffs Knot 5 and 2 mile Fun Run was organised by Stafford Harriers and are part of the North Staffs Road Runners Association (NSRRA) annual programme of events. The fun run started at 6.30pm followed by the 5-mile race at 7.15pm from Marquis Drive, Cannock Chase.
Over 400 runners defied the heatwave as they put their best foot forward around the Chase in pursuit of PB’s, points and prizes. There was an added incentive in the form of a £100 prize for a new course record although this was a big undertaking in temperatures that reached the mid 20’s. The event attracted a good turnout from the local running community who enjoyed the 5-mile route through the forest not to mention the chance to pick up those all-important NSRRA points.
There was fierce competition for first place between Newcastle AC’s Felix McGrath and Boalloy’s Carl Moulton. McGrath emerged the winner in 27:01 with Moulton coming second in 27:25. Lee Gratton of Run & Ride was close behind, finishing third in 27:37.
Lynne Hill of Tipton Harriers was the fastest female in 31:46 followed by Sophie Goodfellow of Newcastle AC in 32:32. Anna Hollingworth of Stone Master Marathoners was third in 33:34.
It was a good evening’s work for Newcastle AC who scooped a win and second place.
There were Stafford Harriers kit bags for every 5-mile finisher and medals for all in the Fun Run.
