Memorial Relay Run To Remember Ed Prickett

Lining Up For The Ed Prickett Memorial Road Relays

The Ed Prickett Memorial Road Relays take place on 18 March 2017 in honour of a talented young athlete. This is the 13th outing for this annual event hosted by the University of Nottingham AC. The relays have been in existence since the 1960’s but were renamed as a mark of respect following the loss of the popular university student and athlete.

Ed (Edward) Prickett, 21, was the current British under-20, 5000-metre champion and a star performer at the University of Nottingham AC. On the 2 November 2004, he travelled to the Gateshead International Stadium to represent the university at the BUSA track and field competition. Sadly, he was knocked down and killed by a car outside the stadium; however, his memory lives on via these road relays as a tribute from past and present teammates to an outstanding young man.

The road relays are open to teams of four men/mixed and three women. The course is two miles in distance with a 13.30pm start and 3 x 2 miles for the women’s race, followed by a 14.30pm start and 4 x 2 miles for the men’s race.

They follow a fast route around the University Park Campus and along the University Boulevard before a sprint finish on the Down's. There are prizes for the fastest teams and individual runners with all proceeds going to the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund for young athletes. This charity provides support for young athletes and Ed Prickett was one of those who benefitted from this help.

Deadline for early bird entries is 27 February. For more information, visit the event website
