Meridian Foods, the UK’s leading producer of healthy, natural nut butters has announced its second year as title sponsor of Meridian Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday, 24 September. Starting and finishing on the Long Walk with Windsor Castle as the spectacular backdrop the organisers claim, with some justification, this is Britain's most picturesque half marathon.
Running Nuts Well Catered For At Windsor
Windsor Great Park, the only Royal Park managed by The Crown Estate, was once part of a vast Norman hunting forest which was enclosed in the late thirteenth century. The antiquity of the landscape is enhanced by the scattering of great ancient oaks for which the Great Park and its forest are renowned.
Last year's champions were Kojo Kyereme (Shaftesbury Barnet, 1:07:06) and Lily Partridge (Aldershot, 1:17:49) and 4,408 finished in 4:12:23. The course is described as 'undulating' with two laps followed by an unforgettable final mile and half approaching Windsor Castle. Course features also include Saville Gardens, Windsor Polo Fields, Statue of George III, Deer Park and Jubilee Statue of Queen Elizabeth. Part of the Windsor Running Festival weekend, the half marathon follows the Boudavida Women’s 10K held on Saturday, 23 September.
Commenting on Meridian’s continued partnership with the race, Sue McIntosh, Head of Marketing said: “The team had such a fantastic time at last year’s race and we’re delighted to be involved again for 2017. The Windsor Half Marathon is located in an iconic setting and the event holds such respect with runners across the region. Our nut butters feel like a natural fit with the running community as they are all natural and provide an excellent source of energy and protein. We’ll be offering samples of our products to runners and supporters throughout the race weekend, encouraging the importance of active lifestyles and healthy eating.
Peter Hier, race director of the Windsor Running Festival, said: “We’re thrilled to have Meridian Foods back on board as title sponsor for 2017 – we had great feedback from runners who sampled their products after last year’s event and we think the brand is a perfect fit for the Half Marathon. Plans for this year’s race are well underway and we’ve had a fantastic response since opening race entries in November.”
