We’re half way through summer and the unpredictable weather means that things are starting to go a little bit crazy. In that vein we suggest you dare to be different with this weekend’s (29-30 July) unusual offerings.
It’s last of the summer rhyme on Saturday with the Summer Shakespeare from Raceways. This is their final Shakespeare series of events as the site used for these races is being redeveloped for housing. There is a choice of 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon plus a free Kids Fun Run, all of which take place at Long Marston Airfield in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Runners complete one lap, two laps, start leg plus four laps or a start leg plus eight laps of a fast 5K course, all of which is on tarmac. The Kids Run starts at 9.15am before the marathon at 10am followed by the half marathon then the 10K and 5K.
Our next multiple lap race is the Enigma Planes Weekend with a half marathon and two marathons over the two days. This race is part of a set of three based on the classic Steve Martin film ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ with the other two races scheduled for August and September respectively. Day 1 is the half marathon and marathon in a clockwise direction; Day 2 is the second marathon but in an anti-clockwise direction. Run one way or the other and receive an iconic medal as your reward.
The Overload Run in Derby is the last of our events and includes an obstacle course race, beer barrel race, cross country race and a kid’s obstacle course. These are held over both days and feature muddy ditches, water and a selection of natural and man-made obstacles to ‘overload’ mind and body. They are not to be undertaken lightly!
