There was plenty to cheer about at the inaugural Run For Fun Solihull Half Marathon on Sunday (2 April). Sunny spring weather formed the backdrop to this new race from KP Events in association with Virgin Active.
Miles Equalled Smiles At Solihull Half
Over 700 runners turned out for a 10.30am start from Blythe Valley Business Park then headed off around an undulating course on rural roads before finishing back at the Business Park.
Karl Welborn of Tipton Harriers won the men's race in 1:15:58. He finished more than three minutes ahead of Michael Pearson (Askern DRC) in 1:19:27 and Shaun Coulton (Hermitage Harriers) in 1:19:48.
Jane Evans of Knowle & Dorridge RC won the women’s race in 1:24:10 and was 12th overall. Jennifer Dale of BRAT was second in 1:28:04, with Joanne Finch of Notts AC third in 1:33:03.
One entrant in particular showed that you are never too old to run. 83-year old Margaret Smith took part to fundraise for Cancer Research UK after losing her partner to this disease in January. Margaret crossed the line in 3:39:04.
Prizes were awarded for the first, second and third men and women with a ‘smiley face’ medal and goody bag for all finishers.
