Mo Farah will kick-start his 2015 campaign by competing at the Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham in February in what will be his seventh time racing at the event. Farah’s participation comes as the 31-year-old prepares to defend his 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the World Championships in Beijing.
Farah has had an eventful 2014, competing in his first ever marathon at London where he took eighth position and setting an English national record. After withdrawing from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow through injury, the athlete secured a double gold at the European Athletics Championships, followed up with victory at September’s Great North Run.
On his participation at Birmingham, Farah commented: “I’m really looking forward to competing at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix. It is without doubt one of the best indoor events in the world and I’ve got great memories of setting three British records here over the years.”
“My last track race was in Birmingham in August at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix where I finished my track year with a win over 2 miles, so it would be great to start 2015 in the same way in front of the amazing crowd. It’s set to be an amazing event and it will be great to see where my fitness is at. 2015 is a big year for me as I’ll be defending my 5000m and 10,000m world championship titles.”
