We are half way through Movember, an annual global event that involves growing moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues. As part of this, there are a series of MoRuns taking place across the Midlands this weekend (18-19 November).
MoRunning is a worldwide community of runners of all ages who come together to support a worthwhile cause and fundraise for the Movember Foundation. Their MoRuns are held across the UK and open to all men or ‘Mo Bros’ and offer a warm welcome to women and children who wear false moustaches to show solidarity.
On Saturday we have the Birmingham MoRun at Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield. There is a choice of 5k or 10k plus a 1.5k Mini MoRun for children and families and everyone will receive a moustache-shaped medal. Youngsters will be given a free T-shirt as well as a medal.
It’s over to Campbell Park for the Milton Keynes MoRun with a 9.30am start time for the kids run followed by 10am for the 5k then 10.10am for the 10k. There is an element of fun with laughter, cheers and high fives for everyone taking part and doing their bit for men’s health.
Our final stop is at Wollaton Park for the Nottingham MoRun with 5k, 10k and a MiniMo Run option. Fancy dress is encouraged as with all these events and a moustache is de rigueur. Some runners will be competitive whereas others will be there to enjoy the experience but whatever the reason, it is about promoting healthier lifestyles amongst men and helping them to live longer.
