Natalie Bhangal was on the right road at the Draycote Water Winter 10K (Sunday 13 January). She posted a win and a PB on a course that was harder than first appeared.
The Draycote Water Winter 10K Series 2018/2019 are held on the second Sunday in the month, beginning in October 2018 and finishing in March 2019. Sunday’s race was the fourth in the series from The Race Organiser and took place at the reservoir and country park situated at Kites Hardwick near Rugby in Warwickshire.
Runners set off at 9.45am on the road course that included a stretch along the Farborough Dam pathway followed by a lap around the reservoir. They started and finished near to the country park after battling strong winds and the short inclines which didn’t detract from the views across the reservoir and of the surrounding countryside.
Natalie Bhangal of Leamington C & AC was the first female in 40:03 and recorded a PB; this coming off the back of her recent win at the Tempo Events Winter Series 10K on 30 December where she ran 41:45. She finished more than two and a half minutes in front of Olivia Baker who was second in 42:46. Julie Wargent of Higham Harriers AC was third in 43:05.
Ben Kruze won the men's race in 35:22 with Ali Herbert of Cherwell Runners and Joggers finishing close behind him in 35:28. Peter Freedman was third in 35:37.
There were 554 finishers who received a medal, goody bag and a surprise extra in the form of a head warmer for winter training runs.
The fifth race in the series is on Sunday 10 February.
