In 2019, runners will come under starter’s orders for the first time at three iconic English racecourses. Organisers are offering an invitation to come and get the bit between your teeth at the Classic Run Series.
Cheltenham, Aintree and Newmarket racecourses are household names, known for their staging of the Gold Cup, Grand National and 2000 Guineas respectively. However, these famous venues will be host to two legs instead of four in the shape of the Classic Run Series, a new mass participation event in the autumn of 2019.
They are the brainchild of Hollicom Events in conjunction with the UK’s largest publisher, Reach PLC and The Jockey Club. The aim is to deliver a unique running experience for people of all ages and abilities, from fun runners to club runners, fitness fanatics to charity fundraisers, children as well as adults.
The Classic 10K Run is the main draw and held on fast, flat courses that will appeal to top athletes looking for a PB as well as the first timer at this distance. There is a Classic 5K, Classic Junior Run and Classic Family Mile as well.
Cheltenham is the first in the series taking place on the 1 September 2019 followed by Aintree on the 8 September then Newmarket on the 20 October. There are generous cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female and the Masters category (35+) and a Classic Run Series T-shirt and medal for every finisher.
Liz McColgan-Nuttall MBE is an event ambassador for the Classic Run Series along with her double Olympian daughter Eilish McColgan and urges people to sign up, saying: “I’ll be taking part myself and I’m sure these events will quickly become fixtures on the calendar within the club running community.”
