New autumn date for Shrewsbury Half

Runners At The Shrewsbury Half Marathon

The ever-popular Shrewsbury Half Marathon returns with a new autumn date and cooler weather (hopefully). Runners can now take advantage of the Early Bird entry fee, available until 31 December.

Organised by UK Run Events, Shrewsbury Half Marathon is a ‘must do’ race that attracts runners from all parts of the country. Last year’s event was a huge success and race director Joe Williams aims to deliver the same on Sunday 6 October.

Reaction to the new date has been mixed. Some have highlghted that the new date clashes with Cardiff Half and Chester Marathon however others have welcomed the new scheduling and the likelihood of more temperate temperatures.

There are no changes to the attractive course that starts and finishes at the Shropshire County Showground. It is a mixture of urban and rural that includes the historic sights of Shrewsbury and a long climb up Wyle Cop; then continues through the town and a loop around the Kingsland Estate before heading into the Shropshire countryside and its autumn vista of colour.

There will be a team of pacers from Xempo to help runners reach their targets and four water stations to keep hydration levels topped up. These will be more than sufficient as heat is unlikely to be an issue compared to previous years.

Every finisher will be presented with a medal, technical T-shirt, goody bag, free race photographs and free pre/post-race massages.

There is a new addition, a Family 1.1 Mile designed for children as well as their parents who will enjoy a race day atmosphere. All entrants will receive a medal, goody bag, carton of water and a banana.
