Around 800 runners sprung into action at the sold out inaugural Notts 20 (Sunday 17 March). Many achieved their goals thanks to Jake Lowe...
The National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham was the venue for the first ever Notts 20, organised by Perfect Motion. The aquatic location was an apt choice, considering the wet and windy conditions and the course – challenging but not insurmountable.
On hand to ensure everyone achieved their goals was Jake Lowe, coach at Running with Jake who is a familiar sight with his selfie stick. He provided advice and support via a series of videos in the 8 weeks leading up to the race, creating a community in that time. Like many others, Jake Lowe was running the Notts 20 as preparation for a spring marathon.
Jake and others set off at 9am to follow a single lap, out and back course comprised of countryside/riverside paths, public footpaths and roads. Not forgetting the hills.
Ryan Bennett of BADGERS continued his impressive build up to London Marathon by winning the first Notts 20 in 1:55:56. Craig Taylor of Holme Pierrepont RC was second in 1:56:40 and Wayne Lathwell of Lincoln Wellington AC third in 1:57:55.
Lindsy James of Kimberworth Striders was the first female in 2:18:37 closely followed by Michelle Willcocks of Sutton in Ashfield Harriers in 2:18:40. Carolyn Hay of Redhill RR was third in 2:21:56.
Jake Lowe finished in 2:40:43.
This race was a long term goal for the organisers as echoed by Perfect Motion's Chris Simon who said: “We’ve been looking at bringing a new 20 mile event to the market for some time and it’s great to finally get there!”
