A win at Leicestershire Half Marathon (Sunday 17 February) was music to Nick Samuel’s ears following his victory at last October’s 10K that was held at the same location.
Prestwold Hall, Loughborough was the venue for the second Leicestershire Half Marathon from RunThrough Events. This Grade I stately home is set within 2,500 acres of land including an airfield that formed the majority of the route for this half marathon. It is also used for the Leicestershire 10K.
Blue skies, sunshine and a choir kept the runners motivated as they completed 13.1 miles on a flat route consisting of a race track and rural roads. The race started and finished at Prestwold Hall and there were several treats to look forward to at the end not least the sweet and savoury muffins. There was also plenty of support from the marshals and a final boost from Rock Choir near the finish who serenaded everyone as they raced down the home straight.
Nick Samuels has started 2019 on a high with two Spanish half marathon wins and added the Leicestershire Half Marathon to his tally. The international duathlete and GB triathlete was first across the line in 1:11:54 followed by Chris Kilburn in 1:12:26. Patrick Townsend was third in 1:13:09.
Samantha Harrison of Notts AC was the fastest female in 1:21:14 followed by ultra trail champion Beth Pascall who came second in 1:24:24. Kim Baglietto finished third in 1:25:35.
