No Fair Weather Running This Weekend

Britain may be hit by Arctic weather conditions but this cold snap won't stop runners and racing this weekend.

Just the one race on what could be a snowy Saturday (14 Jan), the regular monthly Pavilion Gardens 5K series, organised by Buxton AC. A 9am start followed by a good blast around a three-lap course in the Gardens.
Slipping into Sunday (15 January) we find the 23rd Linda Franks 5 Mile event in Cheltenham. This popular road race starts at 9am from the Reddings Community Centre with runners completing a two lap, flat course in an anti-clockwise direction. It is one of several races held by Almost Athletes and part of the Gloucester AAA Road Race Series.
Another road race with Not The Roman IX, a 12K (7.5 miles) event in Stratford upon Avon with a long history. It started out in 1968 as a 9-mile race before a change of venue in 2004 meant a course re-measurement was required. This race starts at 11am. Staying on tarmac there is the Draycote Water 10K in Rugby. Runners follow a fast, flat course around a reservoir making it ideal for a PB and all finishers will receive a technical t-shirt, medal and goody bag.
The final two races are off-road. Choose between the DirtRun Winter Warrior Series Round 5 at Croft Castle in Leominster that includes a climb up to an Iron Age hillfort. Alternately, try the Riverbank Rollick, a 9-mile run on trails, bridle paths, woodlands and across fields with plenty of mud. The organisers, Thornbury Running Club, provide a free, shoe-washing facility at the end.
