Oxford City AC has been crowned leading club at last month's Vitality Oxford Half Marathon. The club collected the prestigious Running Club Award, after a fantastic performance by its top performing male and female runners on Sunday 11 October.
The award recognises the best overall club performance, combining the top two male and top two female fastest finishing times. David Bruce, Simon Fisher, Martha Lloyd and Sarah Davies finished with an overall time of 5:18:16 winning the Running Club Award accolade, alongside a £250 charitable donation.
David Bruce, team member, said: “The new course really showed some of the best of Oxford, including a section through the University Parks before passing the Radcliffe Camera, Sheldonian and loads of other landmarks. The crowd were great as usual and each year there seems to be more and more people, both running and supporting! It was a lovely, friendly atmosphere.
“The race reflected the Oxford running scene, which boasts plenty of local clubs which cater to all abilities. Oxford City has several groups which train together and race together throughout the year and there's great team spirit. We are all excited that we won the team race, as there is always (friendly!) competition between the local clubs. We look forward to seeing how the half marathon develops over the coming years and hope the club can repeat this year's success!”
The race was won by David Bruce in 1:10:34, best women's performance was by winner Fabienne Amrhein in 1:15:53.
