Paula Buddies Up

Paula Radcliffe, Bud Baldaro and Hannah EnglandPaula Radcliffe has confirmed she will be heading to the West Midlands in October to start Bud’s Run, a family-friendly 5k at the University of Birmingham. The event, due to take place on Saturday 4 October, is organised by Bud Baldaro, the former GB endurance coach who has been based at the university for over 10 years.

With more than 20 years of experience, Bud is regarded as one of the country’s top top middle and long distance running coaches. Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009, Bud has been keen to use his love of running to help fund research into this long-term condition.

Although Bud has now stepped down as head coach at the university, he continues to play an active mentoring role with University of Birmingham athletes.

On Paula’s decision to start the race, Bud commented: “We're so grateful to Paula for getting involved. She’s one of the finest British athletes of all time and is a true hero.”

Looking ahead to the event, which will also be attended by World Championships silver medallist Hannah England, Bud added: “The course is traffic-free and loops round the main campus. There will also be a junior sprint track, barbecue, jazz band, stalls, and 1k loop for Parkinson’s sufferers. So whatever kind of runner you are, please come and join us for a great family day out.”

Entry for the event is priced at just £9, with discounts for students, U16s, families, and Parkinson’s sufferers. More information is available at the Bud’s Run website
