It’s the start of a new month and a busy weekend (3-4 June) of races with warm weather (hopefully) to accompany them. There is a mixture in terms of distance, route and terrain and likely to appeal to all.
Pick And Mix Races
There are two races on Saturday: the No Walk In the Park 5K – June that’s organised by North Derbyshire Running Club and part of their monthly series. Alternately, there is the Tysoe Windmill Run in the Cotswolds with a choice of 5k or 10k and a walking option.
The remaining races take place on Sunday beginning with the Flaming June Half Marathon. This is the fourth year for this multi-terrain race and one of several events organised by The Friends of Histon & Impington Recreation and HI Runners.
Next is the Derby Ramathon, a popular half marathon with one of the flattest courses in the UK and based at the iPro Stadium, home of Derby County FC. The event includes a Business Team Run plus Mini Ramathon Fun Run with support and live entertainment on the day.
Our next event is the Great Midlands Fun Run in Royal Sutton Coldfield. This is open to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds with the emphasis on enjoyment while fundraising for local causes. The run is held on an 8.5-mile tarmac route with a commemorative medal for all finishers.
Finally, there is the Northants ‘Shires and Spires’ Ultra, a 35-mile race that starts from Lamport Hall near Northampton. The runners follow a circular route that passes historical country houses including Naseby, Althorp and Cottesbrooke.
