Around 700 runners braved hot and humid conditions at a well-attended Gloucester 10K on Sunday (9 July). Local pride was on display as participants followed a flat and fast route, complete with several tourist attractions including the Cathedral, Quays and the Docks.
Richard Dare of Cheltenham & County Harriers won what was the fourth edition of the race in 34:54. Jo Gallagher of Clevedon AC was victorious in the women’s race in 40:48, and a team of four from Fasthosts clinched the Corporate Challenge title in 2:49:43.
The event was organised by Nigel Tillott of Davies and Partners Solicitors and Chair of Tewkesbury RC along with Gloucester Quays Rotary, who coordinated the route set-up and marshalling. Local construction company E G Carter & Co Ltd were the headline sponsor and designed the free technical T-shirt as well as entering a team in the event.
Davies and Partners Solicitors took over the Gloucester 10K from a commercial organisation and enlisted the support of various authorities and the populace. New management and a new route have proved to be a winner with runners from local clubs and further afield taking part in a race suitable for all.
Two local charities – Nightstop and Gloucestershire Young Carers – stand to benefit from the race’s fundraising efforts. To date, over £17,000 has been donated to local charities.
