A well deserved round of applause for the sold-out Western Power Distribution Derby 10 Mile (12 November). The fast course, fun-loving marshals and big stadium finish were a few of the highlights.
There was a minute’s silence at 11am to observe Remembrance Sunday followed by the start of the race at 11.01am from Pride Park Stadium. A field of over 1,200 runners headed off on a flat route that included Elvaston Castle Country Park where they were greeted by high fives and sweets from excitable youngsters.
The lively atmosphere continued with the marshals playing their part, in particular, the volunteer at mile 8 whose vocal encouragement provided additional motivation. That enthusiasm along with that of the others contributed to a positive experience for the runners with many vowing to return next year.
Alistair Watson of Notts AC was quickest in 50:30 followed by Josh Bull of Derby AC in 52:59. Danny Hallam of Wreake Runners came third in 53:38.
It was another first place finish for Rachel Olivant of Derby AC who added this race to her growing tally of wins. Danielle Booth was second in 1:04:12, only eight seconds ahead of Leonie Shipley of Derby AC, third in 1:04:20.
The last runner finished in 2:19:16. A full set of results can be found on our race listings
Annabel’s Angels was the official charity partner for the second consecutive year. This local cause provides support to individuals and their families in Derby who have been affected by cancer. Several friends of the charity took part in the race to fundraise on their behalf and they received additional donations courtesy of the sports masseurs at the event.
