There are just 18 days to go to Sunday 5 June and the Derby Ramathon where runners from far and wide will tackle a new city centre course that starts and finishes in the iPro Stadium, home of Derby County FC aka ‘The Rams’.
The football theme continues with Derby County named as the official race partner for the second consecutive year with local running store the Derby Runner as the headline sponsor.
Macmillan Cancer Support is the 2016 chosen charity with the NSPCC as the Mini Ramathon recipient. The Mini Ramathon fun run is sponsored by Timms Solicitors and is suitable for both adults and children who will have the chance to run alongside the race mascot ‘Rammie’.
This year sees a world record attempt by Lindsy James, an experienced athlete and member of Kimberworth Striders Running Club in Rotherham. She is hoping to become the fastest female to complete a half marathon whilst pushing a baby in a pram. Both she and her baby son Archie hope to break the current world record of 1:30:51 set by American Nancy Schubring in 2001.
There is a poignant feel to this challenge, as Lindsy will be raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Rotherham Hospice - both of who provided care and support when she lost her mother to cancer last year.
Derby Ramathon entries close at midnight tonight (Wednesday 18 May). Visit the website
