Rebecca Twardochleb showed why she is a force to be reckoned with at Saturday’s (5 January) Staffordshire Cross Country Championships at Stafford Common.
A talented runner and swimmer, 19-years old Rebecca Twardochleb continues to impress on both fronts with a string of victories to her name. The Newcastle (Staffs) AC star was part of a strong ladies team at the Staffordshire Cross Country Championships that dominated the U20 Women, Senior Women and Veteran Women’s races.
She crossed the line in 19:43 to become the U20 Women winner followed by Giorgia Chattwood of Cannock & Stafford AC in 19:59. Rebecca’s teammate and NSRRA Ladies Champion Sophie Goodfellow came third in 20:54.
Rebecca tried for the U20 Women & Senior Women titles but was beaten into second place in the main event, finishing in 19:43. Katie Holt of City of Stoke AC won in 18:37 and Giorgia Chattwood of Cannock & Stafford AC third in 19:59.
There were wins for City of Stoke AC in the U13 Boys, U15 Boys, U17 Men and U20, Senior Men & Veteran Men races. In the latter, a classy run by Alex Brecker saw him first home in 27:41 with Jon Morris of Wolverhampton & Bilston AC second in 28:50. Dave Sheldon of City of Stoke AC was third in 29:11.
Stafford Common played host to these championships on a cool, dry day where the terrain proved to be a challenge as always. However, it was a successful day for many athletes not least Rebecca Twardochleb who has been selected to represent Staffordshire Senior Ladies.
