Redditch Running Author Continues His Silver Streak

Doug Richards with his silver Running Award

Success breeds success as they say and Redditch running author Doug Richards is a prime example of this, winning the Silver Trophy for his best-selling book ‘Running Hot & Cold’ at the 2016 Running Awards.

Doug, 67, is a popular figure in the Midlands running community who is a regular at Arrow Valley parkrun and a qualified Run England leader. The retired University of Birmingham lecturer is a late convert to running, originally taking up the sport to improve his health and fitness. He started with a mile but before too long was running marathons and in various locations around the world.
He has completed races in extreme environments around the world including Siberia and the ice cap of the Arctic Circle to the Gobi and Sahara Deserts. His adventures in these fascinating places are the central theme of his book ‘Running Hot & Cold’.
Another aspect of this book is how running helped Doug through tough times in his life, having to cope with bouts of anxiety and depression. England Athletics has appointed Doug as a local mental health ambassador to promote the benefits of running on psychological wellbeing.
‘Running Hot & Cold’ was shortlisted for the prestigious Running Awards 2016, held on Friday 22 April at the O2 arena in London. These awards celebrate the best in running culture, using a public voting system to determine first, second and third in each category. More than 90,000 votes were recorded.
This award along with the sell-out success of his book, and rave reviews has delighted his publishers, Pitch Publishing. They have invited Doug to work on a sequel.
